European Grand Prix 11th April 1993 Donington Park England

“Ayrton Senna lap of the Gods”

The starting grid was Prost,Hill,Schumacher,Senna,Wendlinger and Andretti who made up the top 6 starters.

The weather was torrential rain and surface spray.

The lights turned green the race started-Michael Schumacher blocked Ayrton Senna,Karl Wendlinger took third. Having dropped to fifth, Senna quickly passed Schumacher on the inside of “Hollywood” Senna then overtook Wendlinger for 3rd place passing him around the outside of the “Craner Curves” as demonstrated in this painting,with the Ferrari drivers of Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger attempting to keep up.Senna then went after Damon Hill under Starkey’s Bridge and took second place on the inside of McLean’s Corner. Now Alain Prost was the target and the lead was taken at the Melbourne Hairpin.

Ayrton Senna went on to win the 76 lap race having lapped the entire field except for Damon Hill who finished 1.23 minutes behind.

The race was won on the very first lap where Ayrton overtook 5 cars in 8 corners for perhaps his greatest ever win and a race that cemented Ayrton Senna as a true legend in the sport.
